make something every day

Happy New Year! It is my goal for 2013 to Make Something Every Day. To be creative and make art a part of my daily life. I vow also to get out and smell the flowers every day, enjoy the fresh air and keep my mind at ease. I can't guarantee that all of my creations will be blog worthy but I will try my best to document each days new idea.

Today I made: A couple new things for the shop. Already this is helping with business! After uploading a handful of new items to my shop, I got out my red yarn and made a red version of this bow and a cranberry red version of this scarf. No pictures yet but I'll have these colors added to my shop before the week is over. In other news, the rain has been treating my garden well and the flowers are blooming beautifully. <3

So, the challenge has started,
and day one has been completed.

Now that the holidays are over it's time to get back to business. (Until New Years at least.) I had a wonderful Christmas and I enjoyed making gifts for my loved ones, and my customers. With happy thoughts in my mind I can get working on all my plans for the new year, which are extensive. I'm going all or nothing so it's business first for 2013. And it's 2:00 in the morning so it seems like I'm getting good head start on that... I'm going to have to seriously reevaluate my sleep schedule if I want to catch any of these short winter days. Or I'll learn to be a night owl, either way I'm doin' work, son!

Sometimes I wonder if I should even keep this blog, I don't update it quite as often as I intended to. It's more of a place for me to ramble I guess, but I put a lot of work into it so I'll keep it around. Most of my shop updates nowadays are posted to my shop instagram: @noelebelle and my facebook page.

Sorry I haven't posted much recently, and anything that I have uploaded is shop related for the most part. This holiday season has been keeping me busy, and I haven't had much time for some of my hobbies. I hope to put more time into this come next year. AND! Since the world is now over,
^^^ everything in my shop is 20% off until 2013. ^^^

I wish you all a happy holidays and a cozy winter, happy solstice <3

handmade holidays - tree trimming

My first post for this year in Handmade Holidays! I may have started my holiday gift-making a little late, but it's not over yet! I want to show you guys all of the crafty, christmas-y things that I'm able to come with. I'll be expanding my inventory with 'ready to ship' items for quick, holiday delivery and I'll also be sharing the gifts that I put together for my loved ones.

I'm not cheap and I love to spend my money on stuff for my friends and family but this year I'm trying to put a little more meaning behind my gifts while supporting small businesses and the art of crafts. Sorry Wal-Mart, but mom doesn't need a cheap pair of pj's this year. And I'm not saying that store bought gifts mean nothing, it's all about finding that special something for those special someones whether it's cheap, expensive, handmade or edible.

I simply intend to spark some creativity and spread some holiday cheer. Handmade Holidays is for those of you who love to craft and may be in need of some last minute gift ideas, and for those of you who are supporting us independent artisans this season by buying handmade gifts. So, for starters, I have some brand new Christmas tree ornaments up on Etsy:

simple additions

For as long as I've known how to crochet cute little bows, I never bothered to put any in my shop. But finally, I perfected the design, securing the bow and making sure that it fits snugly. I love making these so I hope to sell lots of them this winter. I also put a couple other things in my shop including a unisex infinity scarf and a pair of lovely moon earrings.

old and new

Just in the middle of preparing for Black Friday.
I, personally never go shopping on Black Friday
because I can't stand the hoards of people going crazy over stuff they don't need.
However, nowadays all of that can be avoided because we have THE INTERNET!
And I believe that both the buyer and the seller can benefit
from having an excuse to mark down the prices and put on some sales.

So, to all of those awesome, amazing people buying handmade this year,
Black Friday will be the day to check out Etsy.
Thanks to them all shops having a sale will be covered.
I made sure to put a bunch of pre-made items out there for quick delivery.
What better time to knock some presents off of your list?
I'll be supporting handmade by shopping around all over Etsy next weekend,
and by crafting my hands off and making trades to check everyone off of my Christmas list this year.

And heey crafters!
Don't forget about those near you who may not have much to celebrate this year.
There are always local groups and organizations accepting donations for warm clothes,
and you know how to make them!
I'm sure those affected by Hurricane Sandy could use a little love too,
so empty out your stockpiles of unused handmades and show your helping hand.

santa baby

There are a couple of new, festive items in my shop as of this evening. I spent most of my day just trying to prepare the items to sell and I must say, sometimes the photography is harder than any other aspect of creating these listings. Most of the shots I took today went straight to the trash folder but I was able to pick out enough good ones for these hats. I try to keep it simple in order to come out with better results, and was the Freddy Krueger sweater too much? I think not ;) Here's a little blogworthy note: I found that sweater at the Goodwill for something like $3.00, 'tis the season so don't forget to check the men's sweater section on your next thrift store outing!

Santa Hats available in:

Well, I'm off for the night. As much as I'd like to sit down and continue creating new designs, I think it's time to finish some long overdue projects. And, as much as I'd like to hibernate in my home for the next couple of months I must get some work done so I can get out and enjoy the holidays too. Until next time, xo neena noel

scarf lovin

Put up some new items in my shop, mostly scarves. I can't stop making cowls and infinity scarves so hopefully others love them as much as I do. I plan to make autumn and winter cozy and warm with soft wools and comfy hats. In the next few weeks I will be expanding my inventory, bettering my shipping methods and seeking good, quality materials. I have some yarns on my list to buy but I always have trouble finding trustworthy suppliers with good prices and good yarn so if any of you crafters have some suggestions please let me know. :) I'd be happy to share my knowledge of yarns, shipping supplies and Etsy shops with you too, my mailbox is always open. neenanoelart@gmail.com

look who's back

and comin' back
with a vengeance.. >.<

First of all, here's a little update on my shop: Motavations is currently on vay-cay until I can fill her up with a bunch of new goodies. I'll be throwing product previews at you like this extra-long, chunky, winter hat that I designed almost a year ago.
I'm currently in a state of confusion, trying to decide whether to make lots of custom order pieces or more one of a kind, ready to ship items. I'm sure custom orders will sell better, but I think there's something really special about making one unique item with no duplicates so people have an opportunity to own something that's truly one of a kind. I hope to get some feedback on my previews to help me decide whether to sell singles or customs of items.

Now most importantly! My bff, Charisma, is probably coming to room with me soon and she just so happens to be a very talented, crafty girl. I already have some dream catcher earrings of hers in my room which I'll be putting up in my shop when I open it back up. She will be the first new member of my shop, so coming soon is the new and improved Motavations! I have lots of talented friends and lots of collab ideas in mind so hopefully we can work together on some projects without goofing off too much, haha. Here's to more good times.!

I came back from a trip to Long Beach to the chilly autumn weather that I've been waiting for. I hope it stays this way so I can keep my sweater on and crank out some scarves.

In other news:

New blog favorites: sennaloves.blogspot, I love your blog and your knits are great. And thanks to her I also found woolandthegang.tumblr which is also full of yarn lover inspiration.

I'm going to go do a rain dance right now and try to re-teach myself to knit today.

Last winter I took some pictures of the snow:

thursday blues

Sitting outside, listening to music, relaxing and recapping my day. It's so peaceful outdoors at night and the sunset was lovely, but it looks like it's going to rain, oh my! It's been so hot lately I would love to run through some rainfall. I'm really happy with one of the necklaces that I made today as well as a pair of earrings that I finished, and I'm pleased to say that I'm still getting orders for bikini tops, glad to see you gals are still swimming and enjoying the end of your summer!

Well this is my second blog post tonight, and I only have one follower.. oh wait, that follower is me! So technically I've just been talking to myself, but it's okay because it's in the form of a blog and I'm saving money and paper by using this as my journal ;). I'll keep posting either way, you can't get rid of me just yet blogger!

Found this little guy today, hoping he still works!

beautiful skies

Working on tons of new jewelry, morning coffee, the great outdoors (of my backyard) and the beautiful sky. I'm loving sitting at home and working on new items for my shop, but my need for travel is pounding in the back of my head. I'd love to get out and see a foreign city or some of natures amazing phenomenons. But until I get the chance to go somewhere I've never been I'll be sitting on a chair in my backyard crocheting away happy as ever.

for september

Septembers almost here, and thankfully I've gotten a few new things up in my shop recently. I've also been working on more stuff that I haven't listed on Etsy yet. I have a bunch of supplies coming in the mail that I cannot wait to open up and start using. For those of you who love jewelry be expecting lots of chain, coral, turquoise and tribal beads and hopefully some warm crocheted hats, scarves and clothes too.
